Offset Services

The Carbon Consultancy provides both voluntary and certified carbon offset units for its clients. These units are predominantly sourced from the market and screened prior to use by our clients to ensure that each unit will deliver the required carbon value and is a genuine offset unit.

Clients who are not required to participate in a trading scheme may use either voluntary or certified units, although in the UK, DEFRA recommend certified units for all users. This emphasis on certified units is designed to address the lack of standards in the voluntary market, even though this market has many high grade projects. An alternative to offsets in the voluntary sector is charitable giving linked to both the cost of carbon emissions and environmental charities. The Carbon Consultancy, for example, supports the work of the Centre for Sustainable Energy, whose excellent programmes support renewable energy education in schools. The benefits of their programmes may not be used as carbon credits, but will have a positive environmental impact in a UK setting where verification is easily assessed.
